Passport Forms and Requirements

A passport is an officially recognized government document that certifies one's identity and citizenship, permitting a citizen to travel abroad and to re-enter Canada.

You can apply for a Canadian passport by mail or in person at Passport Offices or Service Canada Centres. Service options, processing times, and walk-in availability vary by location. Some centers require appointments, while others accept walk-ins.

Expedited services are available only at select locations. It's advisable to check the specific offerings and current processing times at your nearest office by visiting the Government of Canada’s website or by searching for a location here.

Fees for a Canadian passport, whether for a 5-year or 10-year option, vary by processing speed—standard or express. These fees are paid directly at the passport office. We facilitate document preparation, outlining costs to help you budget effectively.

Our service includes a smart form wizard and required document checklists, ensuring accuracy to avoid delays and rejections.

Standard processing through mail or in-person submission at a Service Canada Centre takes approximately 20 business days. If you apply in person at a Passport Office and not a Service Canada Centre, the processing time is about 10 business days.

For expedited service, you can choose the express service which takes about 2 to 9 business days, or the urgent service which processes applications within 24 hours. Both expedited services are available only at certain Passport Offices and require proof of urgent travel, such as an airline, bus, or train ticket showing travel within the next 20 days, or a written statement if travel cannot be confirmed with a ticket.

Please note, additional fees apply for express and urgent services, and it's advised to check availability and specific requirements directly with the nearest Passport Office.

You will need to provide proof of Canadian citizenship (e.g., a birth certificate or citizenship certificate), a government-issued identification card (e.g., driver's license), and two identical passport photos that meet the requirements.

Yes, you can renew your Canadian passport by mail if you meet specific eligibility criteria. Your previous passport must have been issued when you were 16 years of age or older, and it must have been a 5-year or 10-year passport.

Additionally, your current passport must:

  • Be undamaged and contain all its pages,
  • Have the same name, date of birth, and place of birth as your previous passport, unless you have legal documents to support a change,
  • Be either still valid or have expired within the last year.

If your Canadian passport is lost or stolen, immediately report it to the nearest Passport Office or Canadian government office abroad. Complete a declaration form to officially record the incident and help prevent misuse.

When applying for a replacement for the passport that was lost or stolen, you will apply for a new passport.

To expedite your passport, you can opt for the express or urgent service available at select Passport Offices. Proof of travel or a letter explaining the need for urgent processing is required.

Collect and organize all necessary documents using our checklist, ensuring each item meets the current guidelines provided by the Canadian passport office.

If your name has changed due to marriage, divorce, or by legal decree, you will need to submit a new application with documentation supporting the name change, such as a marriage certificate or a court order.

Passport photos for Canadian passports must be clear and taken against a plain, light-colored background with a neutral expression. The dimensions of each photo should be exactly 50 mm wide by 70 mm high. Photos must be taken by a commercial photographer and dated on the back to verify they were taken within the last six months.

Your face must be directly facing the camera with no shadows or glare affecting visibility. Both eyes should be open, and head coverings are only allowed for religious reasons, without obscuring any facial features. Additionally, glasses must be removed to avoid glare, unless medically necessary.

A guarantor is someone who confirms your identity and that the details in your passport application are true. They must also endorse one of your passport photos and sign the application form.
