How to Apply for a New Canadian Passport

Applying for a new Canadian passport is a straightforward process with RushMyPassport.ca. As a Canadian citizen, you need a Canadian adult passport to travel abroad or to gain re-entry into the United States. You can apply for a new adult passport if any of the following conditions apply to you:

  • You do not have a valid Canadian passport.
  • Your Canadian passport expired more than one year ago.
  • Your current passport was issued when you were under 16 years old.
  • You need to update personal information on your current passport.
  • Your current passport was valid for less than five years.

    NOTE: If your passport is lost, stolen or damaged and you CAN provide the date it was issued, the expiration date and the passport number, then you can apply for a passport renewal. If you CANNOT provide this information, apply for a new passport.

What Documents Will I Need to Submit My Passport Application?

When submitting your application for a new Canadian Passport, you will need to include the following with your application:

  • At least 1 valid document to prove your identity
  • A long form birth certificate from the Canadian province or territory where the child was born or a citizenship certificate
  • Proof of parentage or of legal guardianship
  • All documents related to the custody, decision-making responsibilities, access, parenting time, or mobility of the child, including any divorce judgment or court order
  • Any valid Canadian passport or other travel document issued in the child’s name
  • 2 identical passport photos of the child
